Scott Sueme
Small Inner Voice & New Page

Scott is a Canadian artist raised in Vancouver, BC. He has exhibited throughout Canada, as well as internationally, including New York, San Francisco, Miami and Cape Town. Scott’s paintings are rooted in an exploration of materiality – principally, the quality and perception of colour. In his work, colour manifests as an abstraction of various elements of life, interacting to recall memories, capture the passage of time or connect with the subconscious. Sueme’s hard-edge painting techniques create a subtlety of depth that reveals a new resonance to colour and an admission of the human hand. This “imperfect” process of making calls to a nostalgia or authenticity – an honouring of the handmade. Through an intimacy of material interaction, Scott’s works act as small records of larger lived experiences and a conversational catalogue of human imprints.

“Making art has been such an integral space for me to dive deeper into who I am and what I am about. I’m so grateful for my creative outlet and its impact on my mental health and processing.”

Susan Taylor
The Crow

Susan is a self-trained artist who has been creating, exhibiting and selling her work for the last twenty-five years. Her work is typically a close look at nature, rendered in ink and watercolour. Drawing is her first love. In 1999, with her partner Frank Ducote, she opened the Blood Star Gallery on South Pender Island, British Columbia. Private and corporate marine life and flower enthusiasts, birders and “foodies” have been collecting her work ever since.

“I tend to have a very busy mind which can keep me from being in the moment and enjoying all of the joys of daily life. Art making, especially drawing, calms my mind and makes me more serene, more mindful and content.”

Kathryn Lissack
Perfectly Imperfect

Kathryn is a Canadian collage and mixed media artist from Vancouver, British Columbia. Her work is a coalescence of contrasts: feminine, bold, modern, classic. She is drawn to themes of femininity, homemaking, maternity and typography, which inspire her use of vintage elements infused with a contemporary aesthetic.

““Perfectly imperfect” is an ideal mantra for living. It removes pressure to conform to a false societal norm and reminds us that everything we are and do and feel and think is exactly as it should be for us in that moment. It empowers us to be our true selves.”

Sandi Wilson
Bru & Arbutus Tree

Sandi is a Canadian born, Baltimore based artist who captures beautifully her love of the natural world through encaustic (beeswax and Damar resin) based work. Every piece she creates is hand made, often on wood boards or locally sourced and reclaimed wood materials.

“I host and create my art at my home for people of all ages and art experience. I always have clients say that for those two hours they “got out of their heads”, concentrating on painting, soaking in the nature that surrounds them in my garden. The sounds of the birds, the butterflies floating past them, bees buzzing sweetly, it calms them and the joy that it brings to me to teach each at their level is enormous. Sharing my God given talent, encouraging others in their journey of well being, mental health and journey of faith is truly a blessing to me.”

Cameron Dougherty
Conch Shell & Candy Dish

Cameron’s obsession with glass began the moment he first gathered glass on the end of a rod.

Since 2077 he’s been honing his craft, beginning his formal education at the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, followed by a five year apprenticeship in California, and stints in studios up and down the West Coast. In 2017, Cameron moved to Vancouver where he launched Dougherty Glassworks.

When he is not working on his own business, Cameron is passionate about training students and apprentices, building the glass-blowing community and cultivating a love for glass in everyone he meets.

Micheal Hermesh
Ship of Fool

Michael studied art at Okanagan University College and at the Vancouver School of Art (Emily Carr). He also has extensive experience in furniture design and ornamental carving. From his residence and self constructed studio, he continues to indulge his passion for sculpting, as well as holding drawing workshops and sculpture courses. His primary interest is figurative sculpture.

“My art is shaped by how I view the world. I do not believe that there is a state of grace in life. Life is life – it is dynamic, and it is always a struggle. Integrity, awareness, and dignity remain constants. These are elements in life that are unchanging and real that can be spent or thrown away. For me, this is the mystic and beauty of life and the underlying subject matter of all my work.”
