Graduate Intern Therapist
Rebecca Owen
Therapy can be an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with the parts of ourselves that may have been pushed aside in the busyness of life. My goal as a counsellor is to hold space for your experiences—without judgment—and to support you in uncovering insight, clarity, and a deeper sense of self-trust.
My approach is relational, grounded, and humanistic. My background includes a decade of experience in mental health nursing to my counselling work, and I deeply value and prioritize collaboration, authenticity, and compassion in the therapeutic process. I work from a cognitive behavioural, person-centered, existential, and Adlerian lens, with a strong belief that each person already holds within themselves the capacity for growth and healing. Sometimes we just need the right environment—and relationship—to reconnect with ourselves and others.
I hold a Master’s in Psychology from the University of Sunderland and am currently completing my counselling internship with Arbutus Counselling as a Graduate Intern Therapist. I feel honoured to walk alongside clients during these interesting times of change, uncertainty, or challenge. I’m particularly passionate about supporting individuals who are navigating anxiety, burnout, emotional dis-regulation, or shifts in identity.
I believe in working with clients in a preventative, holistic way—supporting people to build resilience, deepen self-awareness, and foster meaningful connections.
My sessions are warm, down-to-earth, and guided by curiosity. You can expect humour, honesty, and a steady presence as we explore what matters most to you.

A few things about Rebecca…
I’ve spent the past 10 years working in the mental health field as a nurse, where I supported individuals experiencing a variety of acute or persistent mental health challenges and conditions. I’m also a lifelong horsewoman and nature enthusiast—spending time outside with my family, hiking, camping, or just being with my animals is where I feel most at home.
This next chapter, moving into counselling, is driven by a deep desire to be with people in a different way: to listen closely, sit with discomfort, and walk alongside clients as they find their way forward.
